Testimonials from program particiants

Emmalee Ford: Newcastle

“Great experience for collaboration between the arts and the sciences, highly recommended for scientists with beginner level public writing experience.”

Josh Hixson: Adelaide

This was an awesome experience!  I learned a set of invaluable skills and will definitely be putting these to use in the office and when working with stakeholders.  Plus I met a bunch of great people in the program who I will be staying in touch with.

Cottie Tamessar: Newcastle

“The program gave me broad communication tools to engage the public about my research and left me with a renewed sense of curiosity about science communication. It provided a non-intimidating platform for both experts and industry enthusiasts to delve into the wonders of science and its potential to shape our future as well as engaging the public on this journey.”

Who can join?

The program is available to anyone who has a background in science, social science, academia or a technical area such as engineering, IT, finance, sanitation, development and many more. Our speakers have given talks on cancer, emojis, toilets, communicable diseases, ecosystems, energy, astronomy, psychology, and many, many, more.

Speakers are from a range of organisations including universities, non-profits, government and the private sector. The demographic is mixed - about 1/3 of participants are not born in Australia and over half are women.

This course is designed for complete newcomers who are interested in upskilling their communications ability. Almost all of the people in our program do not have experience in comedy. Most are not advanced public speakers.

The program does incur a fee. Over 90 per cent of participants obtain workplace funding to cover the fee. We will help you to obtain workplace funding. Self-funding is also an option.

Those who are unable to obtain workplace funding and do not wish to self fund are encouraged to join our other Science Comedy show, titled So You Think You Can Ig Noble. By joining this show, you will gain access to a 3-hour science comedy workshop for just $30. The EOI form is the same.
